Attorney Troy J. Webber | Experience

Attorney Troy J. Webber is a graduate of the University of Florida, Levin College of Law. U.S. News & World Report rankings of the nation's top graduate schools place UF Law in a tie for 24th among public law schools, and for 47th nationwide amongst all law schools.  At UF Law, Mr. Webber focused his studies on business law and criminal defense.   He maintained a grade point average of  3.59 and graduated in the top 16% of his class.  While a second year law student, Mr. Webber served as a law clerk at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida in Jacksonville.  There, he assisted federal prosecutors in the preparation of complex criminal cases and wrote appellate briefs submitted to the U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals

Upon graduation from UF Law, Mr. Webber hired on with the Office of the Public Defender for the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit in and for Brevard County, Florida.  As an Assistant Public Defender, he handled thousands of criminal cases in a wide variety of offense areas, including assault, battery, domestic violence, DUI, injunction violations, violations of pre-trial release conditions, exposure, possession, culpable negligence, retail theft, suspended license, trespass, no valid driver’s license, and other types of offenses.

As an attorney in the public sector, Mr. Webber committed himself to learning the craft of a trial lawyer.  He conducted dozens of trials over the course of his career and repeatedly demonstrated a fearless approach to putting a case before a jury.  From September 2010 through December 2011 alone, he represented clients in the course of 25 trials, peaking at three trials in a single month. Mr. Webber drafted and argued numerous Circuit Court criminal appeals and fought for the rights of clients in dozens of Motions to Suppress evidence.  He acquired additional experience in Baker Act proceedings, competency proceedings, “Stand Your Ground” motions, and challenges to the constitutionality of various criminal statutes.

Since entering private practice in Jacksonville, Mr. Webber has continued to aggressively defend the rights of the criminally accused.  His style of criminal practice sends to prosecutors a clear message of trial readiness and an uncompromising commitment to outcomes that protect the interests of his clients.  As a Jacksonville criminal defense lawyer, Mr. Webber is a member of the Florida Bar, the American Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Criminal Trial Experience

When the rights, liberties, and reputation of clients are at stake, the importance of trial experience can not be understated.  A trial background provides a Jacksonville criminal defense lawyer with critical perspective to accurately evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a case, to anticipate jury perceptions, to formulate effective pre-trial litigation strategies, and, ultimately, to make decisions that are in the best interest of clients.

Throughout his legal career, Mr. Webber has consistently demonstrated a willingness and capability to see a case through to trial.  Shown below is a description of Mr. Webber’s recent trial experience, dating back to September 2010.
